The key points at a glance
We collect what we need to verify who you are, process your purchases and keep accurate land records (section 2).
We share only when necessary, for example with the Developer you are buying from and the payment provider that processes your payment. We do not sell your personal information (section 5).
Card details stay with the payment provider. You enter them on Paynow's page. We keep only the card brand, the last four digits and a payment reference (section 6).
You have rights. You can ask to access, correct or delete your information, and you can complain to the data protection authority (section 11).
01Introduction
Property Connect ("we", "us", "our") is a digital land and property platform based in Harare, Zimbabwe. We respect your privacy and are committed to handling your personal information carefully and transparently.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, store and protect personal information when you use the propertyconnect.live website, the Land Wallet mobile app and our related services (together, the "Platform"). It is intended to reflect the requirements of the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] and other applicable law.
For the personal information we process for our own purposes, we are the data controller. When a Land Developer receives your information so that it can complete a sale or allocation, the Developer is also responsible for how it handles that information.
Please read this policy together with the Land Wallet Terms and Conditions. Words defined in those Terms have the same meaning here.
02Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use the Platform. It falls into the following categories.
| Category | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Identity and contact details | Your full name, mobile number and email address. If you reserve a stand on the website, also your national ID number and any notes you add. |
| Account registration details | Your Account record, user type (for example Land Buyer or Land Developer), registration date and settings. For website accounts, your username and password, which is stored in hashed form, never as readable text. |
| Authentication information | One-time verification codes (stored only in a protected, hashed form and valid for a few minutes), sign-in times and session records. If you choose to sign in with Google, the basic profile Google shares with us: your name, email address and profile picture. |
| Identity verification information | Your identity document type (national ID or passport), ID number, photographs of the document, a selfie, and the outcome of our review. |
| Property interests and preferences | Your land goals (target size and type), the Developments, Zones and Stands you reserve, buy or request, your enquiries and your notification preferences. |
| Transaction and payment records | Quotes, purchases, amounts, currency, references, dates and status; payer mobile numbers for EcoCash; saved payment method details (see section 6); your Wallet balances; and allocation requests and decisions. |
| Uploaded and generated documents | Documents and images you upload, such as identity documents, or project documents and images uploaded by Developers. Also the documents we create for you, such as receipts, acquisition records, allocation letters and Land Allocation Certificates. |
| Developer and listing information | For Developers: company and contact details, project details, approvals, pricing, inventory, images, documents and project location coordinates. |
| Communications | Messages you send us by email, WhatsApp, phone or the website chat, and records of the notifications we send you. |
| Device information | Your IP address, browser or device type (user agent), operating system platform and Land Wallet app version. |
| Application usage information | The pages and features you request, the referring page, the date and time, and response status and times, recorded in our server logs. On the website, analytics and advertising tools also collect usage information (section 9). |
| Location information | Land Wallet does not currently collect your device's location. On the website, location coordinates are collected only if a Developer chooses to use their current location to fill in a project's position (section 10). |
We ask only for the information we need. Where information is required to provide a service, such as identity verification before a purchase, we will tell you, and you may not be able to use that service without it.
03How we collect information
- Account registration. When you register on the website or verify your mobile number in Land Wallet.
- Forms you submit. When you complete your profile, reserve a stand, list a project, contact us or use the website chat.
- Mobile app interactions. When you set goals, request quotes, make purchases, request Allocations, download documents or change your settings in Land Wallet.
- Property acquisition processes. From Developers and our team as your reservation, purchase or Allocation progresses, for example decisions on allocation requests and the details of the Stand allocated to you.
- Payment integrations. From Paynow and other Payment Providers, which tell us whether a payment succeeded and give us its reference, amount and related details, and from banks when we match transfers.

- Sign-in services. From Google, if you choose to sign in with your Google account.
- Automatically. From our server logs and, on the website, from cookies and similar technologies (section 9).
04How we use your information
We use personal information only for the purposes below, and only where we have a lawful basis to do so. That basis is usually that the processing is necessary to provide the service you asked for under our Terms, to comply with the law, or for our legitimate interests in running a safe and reliable platform. In some cases it is your consent.

Decisions are made by people. We do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you solely by automated means. Identity verification and allocation requests are reviewed by our team, together with the Developer where applicable.
06Payment information
How payments are processed
EcoCash and card payments are processed by Paynow, together with the relevant mobile money operator or card network. We send Paynow the amount, our reference and the details needed to complete the payment, such as your EcoCash mobile number. Paynow then tells us whether the payment succeeded. For bank transfers, we receive the details your bank includes with the transfer, such as the payer's name, the reference and the amount.
Third-party payment providers
When you pay by card, you enter your card details on Paynow's payment page, not in Land Wallet. Property Connect does not receive or store your full card number or security code. Payment Providers handle your payment information under their own terms and privacy policies.
Transaction records and payment credentials are different
- Transaction records are what we keep: what you bought, the amount, currency, date, status and references. They form part of your Wallet history and are retained for accounting and legal purposes (section 8).
- Saved payment methods hold only what you need to recognise and reuse a method: an EcoCash number; a card's brand, last four digits and a token reference issued by the Payment Provider; or a bank name and the last four digits of an account number.
- Payment credentials, such as your EcoCash PIN, full card number, card security code or online banking password, are never collected or stored by us. We will never ask you for them.
07Data security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. These include:
- Authentication. Land Wallet sign-in uses one-time codes that are stored only in hashed form, expire after a few minutes and allow a limited number of attempts. Sign-in sessions use short-lived access tokens and end when you log out. You can also turn on an app lock that uses your device's biometrics or screen lock.
- Access controls. Each request for a record is checked against the Account that owns it. Access to personal information in our administrative systems is restricted to authorised staff.
- Secure data handling. Land Wallet communicates with our servers over encrypted (HTTPS) connections and keeps its sign-in credentials in your device's secure storage. Identity documents and the documents we generate for you are kept in storage that is not publicly accessible. Your documents are made available to you through download links that expire after a few minutes.
- Protection against unauthorised access. We apply rate limits to sign-in and other sensitive actions, record administrative actions in audit logs, and monitor payments for discrepancies.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. You can help by keeping your device, SIM card and one-time codes secure (see section 3 of the Terms). If a security breach is likely to affect your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authority where the law requires us to.
08Data retention
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy. We take into account legal, financial, contractual and operational requirements, and whether the information evidences rights in land.
- Account information: while your Account is open, and for a limited period after it is closed so we can deal with queries and claims.
- Identity verification information: while your Account is active, and afterwards for as long as we need it to meet legal obligations, such as anti-money-laundering record-keeping, or to resolve disputes.
- Transaction, payment and land records: while they relate to land in your Wallet or Property allocated to you, and after that for at least the periods required by tax, accounting and anti-money-laundering laws, which can be several years. Because these records evidence your purchases and Allocations, we may keep them longer where this is needed to protect your rights or a Developer's rights.
- One-time codes: they expire within minutes. A hashed record is kept for a short period for security and rate-limiting.
- Server logs: for as long as they are needed for security, troubleshooting and fraud prevention.
- Marketing preferences: until you opt out or close your Account.
When we no longer need personal information, we delete it or anonymise it so that it can no longer identify you. Copies in backups are deleted as the backups are routinely replaced.
10Location and device permissions
GPS and location services
Land Wallet does not currently ask for access to your device's location. Development maps are displayed using your device platform's map service (Google Maps on Android, Apple Maps on iOS), which may receive technical information such as your IP address when it loads map content. If we introduce a feature that needs your location, such as showing developments near you, we will ask for your permission first, explain why it is needed, and the feature will be optional.
On the website, a Developer listing a project can choose to use their current location to fill in the project's coordinates. The browser asks for permission first, and the location is used only for that project listing.
Other device permissions
- Camera and photos. Used only when you choose to photograph or upload your identity document and selfie for verification. Only the images you select are uploaded.
- Biometrics and screen lock. If you turn on app lock, your device checks your fingerprint, face or screen lock. We never receive your biometric data. Your device only tells the app whether the check succeeded.
- Notifications. If we introduce push notifications, your device will ask for your permission, and we will store a notification token for your device so that we can send them.
Managing permissions
You can grant or withdraw permissions at any time in your device's settings: on Android, under Settings > Apps > Land Wallet > Permissions; on iOS, under Settings > Land Wallet. If you withdraw a permission, the related feature may stop working. For example, you would need to choose an existing photo instead of using the camera.
11Your privacy rights
Subject to the conditions and exceptions in applicable law, including the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07], you have the right to:
- Access: ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy of it.
- Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information. You can update your name and email address in Land Wallet yourself, and change your mobile number after verifying the new one.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your information where it is no longer needed or is being processed unlawfully. We may need to keep some information, such as Transaction records, information we are legally required to keep, or information relating to an open dispute. If so, we will explain why.
- Objection and restriction: object to processing based on our legitimate interests or for direct marketing, and ask us to restrict processing, for example while we check the accuracy of information you have disputed.
- Withdrawal of consent: where we rely on your consent, withdraw it at any time. This does not affect processing that took place before you withdrew it.
- Complaints: complain to us, and lodge a complaint with the data protection authority, the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).
How to exercise your rights
Contact us using the details in section 16 and use "Privacy request" as the subject. Please contact us from the email address or mobile number registered to your Account if you can. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, to protect your information. We will respond within a reasonable time and within any period required by law, and we do not normally charge for requests.
12Children's privacy
The Platform is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to open an Account, as set out in the Terms. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete it, or take other appropriate steps where the law requires us to keep it.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us. Property bought for the benefit of a minor should be handled by a parent or guardian, with appropriate legal advice.
13Third-party services and links
The Platform connects to, or links to, services run by other organisations, such as Paynow, Google sign-in, WhatsApp, map services, app stores and Developers' own websites. Those organisations have their own terms and privacy policies, which govern how they handle your information. We are not responsible for their practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
14International data transfers
Some of the service providers listed in section 5 process information outside Zimbabwe, for example providers of email, messaging, maps, app distribution, analytics, advertising, chat and AI services. As a result, your personal information may be transferred to, and stored in, other countries whose data protection laws may differ from Zimbabwe's.
Where we transfer personal information outside Zimbabwe, we will take the steps required by applicable law to protect it. This may include relying on the recipient country providing adequate protection, putting contractual safeguards in place, or obtaining your consent where required.
15Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this policy when our services, the information we collect or the law changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. If we make a material change, we will tell you through the app, by email or WhatsApp, or by a prominent notice on the Platform before it takes effect. Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent.
16Contact us
If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your personal information, or you want to exercise your rights, please contact Property Connect. For privacy requests, please use "Privacy request" as the subject.
